The Outsider: The First Season Blu-ray Review
Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel of the same name, The Outsider begins by following a seemingly straightforward investigation into the gruesome murder of a young boy. But when an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case, it leads a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator to question everything they believe in.

The Outsider is another example of how great HBO can be with just incredible performances, with great writing, dark and creepy atmosphere, aided by expert cinematography and a haunting music score. Ben Mendehlson as Ralph Anderson was amazingly charismatic and badass, and obviously my favourite character, although I have to admit Holly Gibney’s character was a pleasant surprise. The music was essential, it just wouldn’t have been the same without that unsettling soundtrack. The music tears, and drones, and throbs, clicks and whirs, and it’s just incredible with good earphones. In the end, it all came together to create a composition of tension, and proving once again that HBO still remains the seat of power.
Movie Quality: 9/10
The print is presented in 1080p with a 1.78:1 aspect ratio. From the colors to the details, your jaw will drop if you look for some of the superb details. Colors are vibrant providing an excellent looking picture. Flesh tones are natural and accurate looking. Blacks look inky. Details are where this film shines the most with the camera even panning away in many scenes. Not once did I feel like I was at a loss for details making this a very strong presentation.
Print Quality: 10/10
The audio is presented in DTS-HD MA lossless 7.1. This is a very atmospheric and immersive sounding film. The rears provide quite a few times where sound effects panned across the speakers. There are many scenes that are outside which also take advantage of the soundfield providing some dynamic sound. The soundtrack shines through so ever beautifully in this show as I mentioned earlier, it really adds to the atmosphere.

Special Features: 8/10
It is quite dark from time to time, so for a crime, thriller and drama it is just perfect. You would be a bit scared mostly by the music and its vibes which are conveyed throughout the speakers.
