Doom Patrol: The Complete Second Season Blu-ray Review
“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.”
DC’s strangest group of heroes are back again to save the world – that is if they can find a way to grow up…both figuratively and literally. Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the DOOM PATROL now find themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff’s toy race car track. Here they begin to deal with their feelings of betrayal with Niles Caulder aka The Chief, while confronting their own personal baggage.

Amazing character development, beautiful cinematography, stellar acting and just a downright great show. I wasn’t expecting much after Titans, I mean don’t get me wrong Titans S1 was okay, but I didn’t think this would be this amazing. Probably the best DC show well, ever.
The acting is real, it feels real and the cinematography and visuals of the show look AMAZING. Every shot is important, every shot puts us in the shoes of the characters. I couldn’t believe the second season was so great, I mean – season 2 of Titans dropped in quality a lot, so I didn’t expect Doom Patrol to stick with the same quality as the first season.
Movie Quality: 9/10
Print/Audio Quality
The print is presented in 1080p/AVC with a 2.20:1 aspect ratio. I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the image quality. This show looks really good in its transfer to Blu-ray. While some maybe disappointed because some of the lower quality CGI in some episodes, that doesn’t detract from an excellent looking transfer. Colors are strong throughout and vary from episode to episode to fit with the atmosphere. Details are great especially with scenes where the camera is up close. Black levels are very strong considering that the series has many dark scenes throughout each episode. There is also grain and noise throughout the transfer, it never becomes obtrusive or distracting. Fans of the show will not be disappointed the slightest.
Video Quality: 9.5/10
The audio is presented in DTS-HD MA lossless 5.1 mix. The soundfield is immersive at all times no matter if it is the special effects or dialogue. I was literally amazed with the amount of dynamic panning from each speaker in the rears. Bass was punchy. Dialogue is also well placed in the center channel sounding crisp and clear. The best part of this all around aggressive soundtrack is that it is well balanced between the dialogue and sound effects.

Final Thoughts
Story line, acting, production are all very good. But get ready for a good ride. By the time your done with episode 3 you are hooked and the series goes into high gear. Glad it got picked up for a third season.
