“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.”

Jefferson Pierce is a hero to his community, as the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that serves as a beacon of hope in a neighborhood overrun by gang violence. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the meta-human power to harness and control electricity, he kept the streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. Now, with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the cross hairs of the menacing local gang, the 100, Black Lightning must return.

‘Black Lightning’ Season 2 is a well directed, written and performed take on one of DC’s minor characters, the African-American hero known as Black Lightning. This show is not risk adverse and tackles a whole host of very difficult problems endemic to American society. Racism, class warfare, rogue government villains and much more make this a compelling and suspenseful watch. The absolute emotional states for this family are real.

The style has some cool visual action scenes in it but the choreography of the action scenes are much weaker then other shows like Arrow. Also I felt like some stylistic choices took away from the tension involved with the show.

The Final Word

This is a great show! The writing and acting is done well. I enjoy watching this show. It takes me out of reality for a while.
